Took Paul and Theodora 12 miles to piano lessons in Milwaukee as children.
Came to US in 1871 at age 17 and worked as a machinist. Naturalized citizen in 1877. Studied for the ministry in Switzerland and ordained on 6 Jan 1882 in Evangelical church in Hall, Germany.
His son Walter’s 1918 draft card refers to him as Rev. W. A. Koch, living in Grand Haven, Michigan.
Retired in June 1936 and went to live with daughter Mrs. Dora Kayser in Dexter, Michigan, near Ann Arbor.
