Family legend said that they were originally from Alsace-Lorraine, near Strasbourg, but left when French took over and went to Plech (part of the Franconian principality of Kulmbach-Bayreuth 1402 - 1791, which then fell to the Prussians and in 1810 was annexed to Bavaria). Research by Heinz Stark of Plech, Germany show them in Franconia, near Bayreuth back to 1560 and in Plech from at least November 1731.
