“BOYD, Denman H. Denman H. Boyd, 80, of Great Pond Road, Simsbury, died very peacefully on Thursday, (July 5, 2007). He was born January 29, 1927 in Evanston, IL, son of the late Darrell Sully and Emily (Matz) Boyd, and grew up in Winnetka, IL. He attended Princeton, joined the U.S. Navy where he served for three years during World War II, and graduated from Wesleyan University in 1950. He taught English at the Loomis School and then returned to Northbrook, IL and began his lifelong career at Marshall Field's from where he retired to Greensboro, NC in 1993. Den was a very special man, always warm, gentle and generous, who touched many lives throughout his lifetime. Those who knew him were made better for doing so, and those who had received one of his legendary back rubs will never forget it. Den made lasting impressions as a loving and devoted father and grandfather, a loyal friend, a dedicated mentor, a thoughtful coach, a faithful deacon of the church, a fellow dog lover, and a supportive and patient golf partner. He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Constance (Holinger) Boyd, and is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, (Emily) Beth Boyd and Terrence S. Ryan of Simsbury; two sons, (David) Scott Boyd of Chicago, and John S. Boyd of Northwood, NH and granddaughters, Anna and Meg Ryan and Colleen and Courtney Boyd, as well as his twin brother, Darrell H. Boyd of Edina, MN, and his dear sister and brother-in-law, Charlotte and Willard McNitt Jr. of Glenview, IL. There are no calling hours. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held in the Chicago area at a date and time to be announced. A private burial will take place in Rosehill Cemetery, Chicago, IL.”
