The Doanes owned a home in Berlin, Vermont named the “Cottage” on Berlin Crosstown Road from about 1900 to 1930…
It was used by children of the very wealthy JW Doane & Julia Moulton.
After they left the home it was lived in by Bela Bartok ,,,the great composer in 1940 after fleeing Hungary.
There will be a History brief Published in 2010 entitled “ A Riverton Retreat” covering the Doanes & Bartok time in Riverton.”
My Great Gram Florence Hewitt cooked for the Doanes as well as Bela Bartok in the Summer of 1940.
