“Mabel Miniutti Annett, 98 ALFRED -- Mabel Lucy Annett, 98, died on Monday, Feb. 16, 2009, at the Varney Crossing Nursing Home in North Berwick. Mabel was born in Concord, N.H., on April 29, 1910, the sixth child of Angelo and Lucia Miniutti. The family moved to a farm in South Berwick when she was a child and she attended a one-room school on their property. She was a graduate of Berwick Academy and Nasson College, with a degree in food services. Mabel worked for many years in the food services field and moved to New Jersey where she married Donald Annett. Upon retirement, she and Donald built a home on former Shaker property in Alfred. She became and avid gardener, specializing in growing herbs. Her gardens were featured in Down East Magazine. Mrs. Annett also enjoyed cooking, sewing and knitting. She and Donald volunteered for the Brothers of Christian Instruction for many years working in the orchards and in the store. Mrs. Annett is predeceased by her husband Donald; and nine brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Judith Carll and husband James; her sister, Angela Miniutti; four grandchildren, Susannah VonIderstine, Rebekah Higgins, Johanna Carll, Nathaniel Carll; six great-grandchildren; one niece and four nephews. A prayer service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Autumn Green Funeral Home, 47 Oak St., Alfred. Committal prayers and burial will be held later in the spring at Pine Grove Cemetery South in South Waterboro.
