“Robert A. Olsen PORTLAND -- Robert A. Olsen, of Portland, died Monday, May 11, 2009, at Mercy Hospital following a brief illness. Robert was born in Falmouth, the son of Henry E. and Marie 'Simmonds' Olsen where he was educated and a graduate of Deering High School class of 1934. He married Elizabeth Genini on April 20, 1947. Robert joined the United States Army in 1942 when he was working at the South Portland Shipyard and served four years until his honorable discharge in 1946. Following the Army he worked for Shaw's Family Market on Meeting House Hill in South Portland, later he went to work for Oakhurst Dairy for over 20 years. Following retirement he worked for Maine National Bank for a few years counting toll monies. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. He loved to Square and Round Dance with his wife. He is predeceased by his seven siblings. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth Olsen; daughter Jane Johnson and husband Ernest of Raymond; two grandchildren, Denise Plummer and husband Alan of Raymond, Douglas Johnson and wife Tonya of Limington; three great-grandchildren, Jayson Plummer, Audrey and Anya Johnson along with many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, May 14, 2009, at the Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Rd., South Portland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Friday, May 15, 2009, at St. John's Evangelist Catholic Church in South Portland. Interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery in South Portland.”
