RUGO GIOVANNI nato il 23/12/1888 a TRAMONTI DI SOTTO da GIACOMO e GRAZZIUSSI ANGELA
IT/ASUD/LEVA/1888/E.001/SPL/P-510
“Our Grandfather is Giovanni Rugo who abandoned the family in and about the mid and later 1920's and went to America where he lived in the Farmingdale New York area up until 1973 when he moved back to Pordenone, (UD) Italy. My Grandfather married an Austrian woman Olga and it is not clear if they had children. Olga passed away a couple of years ago in a seniors home in Farmingdale, New York area.” Lorenzo Rugo, 2005
The Census taken 7 April 1930 found John Rugo renting an apartment at 2339 Arthur Avenue in the Bronx section of New York City. He is said to be Italian born and 42 years old, although information from the Social Security Death Index and World War II draft card indicates that he would not actually be 42 until 23 December 1930. It says that he is married and was first married at the age of 24, so about 1912-1913. It says that he first came to the US in 1929, which pretty much agrees with what his grandson Lorenzo thought. He was employed as a cement finisher. He was paying $20 per month rent, very much on the low side, other rents there ranging from $15 - $45, so probably a very small apartment or just a room. He is listed as having his own apartment, not, as was often the case, as a boarder in someone else's apartment.
