“Obituary, Burlington Hawk-Eye Gazette, November 11, 1889:
At her late residence on North street, last night, Emily, the wife of Charles E. Schramm, died of puerperal fever, after an illness of only a few days. Mrs. Schramm's maiden name was Emily Putman, and she was born and reared in Burlington, being the daughter of Mr. James Putman, a former prominent man of this city and now a resident of Kentucky. She was but 25 years of age, in the youth of womanhood, and had been but a few years the loved companion the husband who is so soon bereft of all he holds most dear in life. Last Friday she buried her only child, an infant only a few days old, and to the grief at her loss was in a measure due the fatal result of the illness which proved her death. Emily Putman's life was spent in this city, and she was held in the highest esteem by numberless friends of her girlhood and later years. The funeral will be held privately at the family residence tomorrow afternoon at 2 'o clock, and the remains will be interred at Aspen Grove. “
