Notes for Beatrice Veronica McHugh
1920 Census: Beatrice and Guido renting 237 Quincy Street, Dorchester (at the corner of Magnolia Street, one block from Guido’s family home), with son Joseph. Say he is 21 she 22 at last birthday (6 Jan 1920 is enumeration date). Looks like he came to US in 1899 and is not yet a citizen. He is working as a ship fitter in a shipyard. Beatrice says that both parents were born in Massachusetts, as did 2 of her brothers in 1920 Census, but probably their father was born in Canada.
1930 city directory shows them at 329 Eliot Street, Milton; also brother Leonard Rugo. Leonard was at 7 Woodfield Street in Dorchester in 1931. The Guido Rugo family was still at 329 Eliot in the 1931. 1934 and 1936 directories.
Family not found in 1930 Census. They may have been at 329 Eliot Street in Milton. It appears that 329 was not counted in the 1930 census, or the page has been lost. The house there was built sometimes after 1924 and bought by George W. and Margaret Coaker of Somerville on 15 June 1927. But in the 1930 census, the Coakers appear to be still living in Somerville. Mrs. Coaker was still living at 329 Eliot Street in May 2009, at age 97, when Amy Rugo Zahler, great granddaughter of Beatrice and Guido Rugo bought an identical house four doors away at 313 Eliot Street.
1936 Boston city directory has them at 46 Hinckley Road, Milton.
Although Giuseppe Rugo bought the land in Milton in 1926, the Milton street directories first show the 46 Hinckley Road house in 1937 as the home of the Guido Rugo family who had previously been listed at 329 Eliot Street, Milton. The house is shown on a 1930 atlas, probably under construction at that time.
