A funeral Mass will be said tomorrow at 10 a.m. in St. Mary of the Hills Church for Lawrence J. Varnerin, a former businessman and banker, who died Saturday at his home in Milton after a long illness. He was 94.

Mr. Varnerin was born in Dorchester and lived there for 54 years before moving to Milton.

He worked for the family business, J. Varnerin and Sons Construction, before becoming a US compliance inspector during World War II.

After the war he became an inspector for the Veterans Administration Housing Mortgage Department.

Mr. Varnerin was a founding director and vice president of the Second Federal Savings and Loan Association of Boston, formerly the Ausonia Bank.

He leaves his wife, Josephine (Nangeroni), two sons, Lawrence J. Jr. of Watchung, N.J., and Robert E. of Milton; a daughter, Jean Donahue of Milton; a sister, Annie Rugo of Waltham; three brothers, Albert of Marshfield, David of Watertown, and Louis of Buzzards Bay; 16 grandchildren and 20 great- grandchildren.

Interment will be in Milton Cemetery.
