On manifest at Ellis Island 28 Feb. 1899, age 4, US born, traveling with Santa, age 24/34? (his mother, actually age 37, had gone home to visit and took him along), Leonardo. age 29?, and Giuseppe, age 17, all going to Boston, to 297 (later 321) Norfolk Ave.

1920 Census: Living with parents at 321 Norfolk Ave. at age 24, unmarried, working as a truck driver.

1930 directory shows him at 3 Groom Street, Dorchester and working at the Maywood Garage at 16 Maywood Street, Roxbury.

1939 newspaper clip has him living at 3 Groom Street.

World War II draft registration shows them living at 3 Groom Street, Dorchester.

Living in Milton in 1952 when daughter was married.

1964 Milton, Massachusetts directory shows him living at 155 Robbins Street.

A funeral Mass will be said tomorrow at 10 a.m. in St. Mary of the Hills Church for Lawrence J. Varnerin, a former businessman and banker, who died Saturday at his home in Milton after a long illness. He was 94.

Mr. Varnerin was born in Dorchester and lived there for 54 years before moving to Milton.

He worked for the family business, J. Varnerin and Sons Construction, before becoming a US compliance inspector during World War II.

After the war he became an inspector for the Veterans Administration Housing Mortgage Department.

Mr. Varnerin was a founding director and vice president of the Second Federal Savings and Loan Association of Boston, formerly the Ausonia Bank.

He leaves his wife, Josephine (Nangeroni), two sons, Lawrence J. Jr. of Watchung, N.J., and Robert E. of Milton; a daughter, Jean Donahue of Milton; a sister, Annie Rugo of Waltham; three brothers, Albert of Marshfield, David of Watertown, and Louis of Buzzards Bay; 16 grandchildren and 20 great- grandchildren.

Interment will be in Milton Cemetery.
