Notes for Giovanni Feroli
FERROLI GIOVANNI nato nel 1878 a TRAMONTI DI SOTTO da LEONARDO e BARET MARIA
IT/ASUD/LEVA/1878/E.264/SPL/P-233

“According to the Ferroli Family chart compiled by Dr. Edward Feroli, Leonardo had two Giovannis. One born in 1881 and one in 1888.” Eric Borgman

Naturalized in Boston in 1901 at age 23. Living on Norfolk Avenue, apparently at #283 - old numbering system was in effect then, later # 305. Says he came to Boston in February, 1893. One witness was John Ramasso of 289 Norfolk Avenue.

20 April 1910 Census shows John as age 30, unmarried, living with his parents.

At time of marriage in 1917 he was listed as living at 8 Humphreys Street, Dorchester. Marriage record spells his mother’s name as Barett, but the correct Italian spelling appears to be Baret. There were about four Baret families in Tramonti di Sotto in 1792 according to a book published by the Comune.

World War I draft registration in 1918 shows them living at 8 Humphreys Street. His job was listed as peddler on the streets of Boston.

8 January 1920 Census has John as age 41, and wife Mary age 31 with two children, living in his father’s house at 8 Humphreys Street, Dorchester (located at the intersection of Norfolk Avenue and East Cottage Street) and says that he is a peddler with a wagon. (A former neighbor, Ferrari, remembers a Feroli who was a fish peddler.)

1930 census:
Angelo and his brother John appear to jointly own the house at 8 Humphreys Street where their families are living. John is a fruit peddler.

World War II draft registration shows them at 8 Humphreys Street. Also his residence when he died.

March 2007 - Eric Borgman reported “Giovanni b. 1881 he married Mary Varnerin in about 1915 and two of his daughters are still living Louise Feroli and Eleanor Rabuffo. He died in Dorchester on March 2, 1949.”
