Notes for Severino J. Rugo
Father’s naturalization papers give 5 July as his birth date.

Was he known as John in college?
Jan 1935 MIT
“The meet last night opened up with
the 115 lb. bout with John Rugo repre-
senting Tech against Kibrick of Har-
vard. The longer reach and bigger
build of Kibrick seemed too great a
handicap for Rugo, but the Tech
youngster released such a perfect air-
tight defense that even surprised
Tommy Rawson. On top of that
brought out some latent hitting power
that from the first round on he had
his opponent on the verge of a knock-
out. It is an unquestioned fact that
Rugo provided the biggest surprise of
the evening with his sudden display of
genuine boxing ability, and his win by
a decision was popoularly approved.”

1940 census has him living with his parents and working as a construction foreman.

1946 directory shows his residence as 149 Pleasant Street, Dorchester, serving in the Army.

Served at Ft. Belvoir with Henry Rugo. Became sick from bad vaccine which may have later given him the liver cancer which killed him.
