1895 March 18, Ellis Island arrival at age 26, on La Gascogne from Le Havre with Henry Rugo’s uncle, Pietro Varnerin, age 11, Anna Ferroli, age 12, Leonardo Varnerin, age 11, and Giacomo Varnerin, age 41. Also, “Gisachino CatarinizzI” age 46 from Tramonti di Sotto, going to Boston. In 1920 Census he gives 1895 as the year of his first arrival in the US. Cattarinussi probably:

1898 April 27, another trip through Ellis Island, age 29 and married, joining his brother in Boston. A year later his wife arrived with daughter, Maria, age 6 months.

His name appears as a founder of: Societa’ Operaia di Mutuo Soccorso di Dorchester, Mass.—Workers Mutual Benefit Society of Dorchester, Massachusetts established March, 1902, along with ten men named Piotti and two named Colombo from the Norfolk Avenue neighborhood and various others.

29 May 1909 at age 39 he came through Ellis Island saying he was going to his friend “Giacomo Varneri” at 297 (later 321) Norfolk Ave. and mentioning wife Santa.

1910 Census: Giovanni B. age 41, married for 12 years, living as a boarder in home of Pasquale Miniutti at 13 Sherwood Street, off Norfolk Avenue. His wife and family are back in Tramonti, some until their 1911 trip through Ellis Island and two children until 1920s.

1920 Census: Ages 50 and 47, renting at 328 Norfolk Avenue with youngest son, Emilio, age 16. Says he came to US in 1895 and she in 1900. Occupation listed as stone mason.

1921 Naturalization papers show him at 328 Norfolk Avenue. Cite 1895 arrival as shown above.

18 August 1923, Leonardo Ferroli, age 29, left his wife Maria Varnerin in Tramonti di Mezzo and came through Ellis Island for the first time, going to join his uncle, Gio. Batt. Ferroli, at 45 Brook Avenue in Roxbury, Massachusetts.

1930 Census shows them owning home at 85 Howard Avenue, Dorchester. Ages 60 and 58 . Ages when married were 28 and 26. Says he came to US in 1895, she in 1900. He is a stone mason. Emilio is living with them, unmarried at age 27.

1934 directory shows him as a meat cutter, living at 85 Howard Avenue with his wife Elizabeth.

1940 census shows them still at 85 Howard Avenue. Son John and his family are living with them.
